Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.
We are the Lord’s runner. Every part of our life is a journey to complete the good fight of faith. “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12 NKJV) We don’t run to pursue our dream but completing the God’s mission. We’re also not race to be a winner because we have become more than conquerors in Jesus.
In the spiritual race, brother and sister in Christ are not our competitors, but they are the coworker. A runner in the world race looking for the weakness of a rival to beat them, but the God’s runner must be willing to shore up the weakness of the brethren. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2 NKJV) When we help the weak, in fact we are moving forward in our faith race.
Our task IS NOT TO COMPETE with each other but KEEP FAITH until the end and COMPLETE the race VERY WELL, NOT PERFUNCTORY. Therefore we shouldn’t be a runner who left the arena before the time (The Runners part 1: Don’t Leave Your Race – click here). We don’t have to only busy with everything about “myself”: my success, my goal, my reputation, my pride, my happiness, my satisfaction, my problems, the other of “My” (The Runners part 2: “The Seventh Runner – click here). GOD IS ONLY A REASON TO US TO RUN!
God has set the goals and objectives to be achieved. “Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.” (1 Corinthians 9:26 NKJV) In order to not being the wrong direction runner, God not only set the goal but also provide guideline and guidance in the its journey: “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 NKJV)
We will experience a various dynamic along the way. Sometimes easy and fun, sometimes difficult and challenging. Sometimes unremarkable and tedious, sometimes full of wonderful surprises and excites. There are times when we are hailed; there are times we were ignored. Sometimes we become rescuers, sometimes just us who need help. Whatever the situation, we must always BE AWARE: “Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.” (Proverbs 4:23 NET)
Must be vigilant keep the heart in what thing? Everything! Sincerity, humility, the right motivation, fear of God, the first love, the desire to pray and read the Word of God, the joy, always grateful, and so on. WE MUST ALWAYS BE AWARE/ VIGILANT BECAUSE WE COULD BE WRONG, EVEN AT THE MOMENT WE DO THE RIGHT ACTIVITY, INCLUDING WHILE SERVING THE LORD. Very dangerous!
ACTIVITY IS NOT THE ONLY SIZES whether we are right before God. Because if the source (heart) was wrong, then no matter how well we do things become meaningless. “… For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7b NKJV)
Paul, an apostle who anointed and used by God, always reminding himself: “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” (1 Corinthians 9:27 NKJV) How irony if we feel that we have done everything well but at the end we are rejected by God!
Do not careless, BEWARE! Ask the Holy Spirit to always investigate our hearts because we often do not realize how the real depth of our hearts. Let’s pray like King David in Psalm 19:12 “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.”Let’s humble ourselves before God and let Him refine our heart everyday.
Happy running! With the Holy Spirit we run towards the finish line. Father is standing waiting for us there. Amen
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14 NKJV)
