Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.
In the previous post, the marathon race has ended and the all runners were succeed to complete the race has got reward a trophy from the king (click here). Actually the king has provided trophies as much as the race participants. But unfortunately, not all runners could complete the race until the end. The race actually wasn’t too difficult as imagined because the king has provided the helpers along the race line who always ready to help if the runners got the trouble. The king was simply wanted each runner ran to the finish line appropriate with the given time. Then what was caused not all runners could complete the race? Many things. Each spiritual growth, character, attitude, and the way we think will affect how we live and define our final results.
The charm spreaders are those who always hungry for people attention. When they ran across the audience and supporters, the thing that controlled their mind is just what people think for and what people look for about them. For this type, what people said is more important rather than what God says. This thing makes them not focus on their task. Despite they try hard to succeed, their motivation is simply to let their performance will look good in the eyes of others. They more accentuate with the outward appearance rather than the quality inside of them.
For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10 NKJV)
The 2nd type of the runner is a slacker. Find and prepare a series of constraints and obstacles is their proficiency and it all merely for avoiding a task. Behind of all, the true reason is because they are sluggish. They are lazy to struggle, lazy to work hard, lazy to thinking. Instead of using their brain to find a way out, they would prefer to look for the excuses to suspend their work.
The lazy man says, “There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion is in the streets!” (Proverbs 26:13 NKJV)
For them, pleasure and pleasantness are everything. They really satisfied when successfully reach a target and don’t fell need to achieve more better if the situation and condition not really urgent. They have a motto “If I can do it tomorrow, why should to do it now?” and finally they never end their job with the maximum result just because they always defer the work.
The sluggards always stop at the point of “Almost reached success” because they are also “almost complete their work” and choose to use the time to “Relax, enjoy this first…” Eventually they wasted a lot of precious time. They not realize that the time limit has ended and they have to stop before reaching the finish line.
Become an active and productive person is excellent. But we don’t have to do all things. If overdone take the role then it would be counter-productive. We need to be able to distinguish which we can do, which is the important to do, and we must to do.
Good runners are runners who focus on goals and not preoccupied by things that can distract them. Not always the bustle, even the ministry always good. Look at what Jesus said about Marta is too busy serving.
And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42 NKJV)
The character of this runner is having a great passion to beat others. They not just want to be success but they will jealous if the others got success too. For them life is a competition. They look down upon the other people also at one blow look the others as a menace. They never felt safe and extremely bothered if there is someone says that there is a better man than themselves. These runners are not focus on running until the finish line but they busy looking at others lives
The overbearing people always feel that they are the best. They are never satisfied (read: be thankful) with their own achievement. Conversely, they were satisfied (read: relief) if they successfully beat others. After that they will enjoy the feeling of “win” until they see another “competitor”
Everyone surely have a problem. But there are specific people anytime and anywhere always brings their problem. Their energy depleted not for running but to carry the load. Not simply a load of problems but also their hidden sins. All of that makes their step become heavy and slow. Quite often this situation aggravated by fall into the self-pity, they feel unworthy, slumped, and eventually they lose of hope.
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1 NKJV)
These sixth runners have almost everything that needed to be success. They are energetic, persistent, determined, have a good focus, and a wide range of good character. But sadly they don’t have the well knowledge and recognition about God. That is why this makes them have wrong direction because they quantify God’s word based on “their own truth”. They pursue “their own vision” in order to satisfy “their own desires”. At the end of time they would be surprised how far they had wrong step. Finally, the God’s call for them will not be fulfilled.
Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge, And he sins who hastens with his feet. (Proverbs 19:2 NKJV)
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” (Hosea 4:6 NKJV)
No matter how great a man, without God they would be having a wrong direction!
As a faith race runner, what God wants is we finish the race very well before our time limit is over (Died). God has provided the Holy Spirit as our Helper and Comforter. God can use anyone as His instrument to bless us. God gives us strength, wisdom, and even miracles along the journey.
Don’t be like the six types of the runners who had started the race but couldn’t finish it. We have to be THE SEVENTH RUNNER that is always focuses, diligent, enterprising and unyielding. To be a wise runner and not reckless in make every step. To be a runner who does not run to achieve our own goals, but seek God’s will for each of us and do it wholeheartedly. To be a runner who never rely on its own strength, but just always rely on God.
For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. (Colossians 1:9-12 NKJV)
