Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.
A week has passed. The time comes. We won’t tobe late. Then we are speeding down non-traffic jam road. After we passed the first bend of the road, we will come across a Junction and we have to take the main street because that is the way to our heading. Let’s say this is the first phase.
Then we will be up at the crossroad with a traffic light. At the crossroad, we could choose the straight road or turn to the left. Although with the different route and range, these two roads will take us to our destination. But since the condition of the left road is not quite well, we often choose to take the main road until the next Junction then we turn to the left. We could choose the turn to the right but we will turn more far and need much more time. But of course these ways eventually will still take us to the destination. Let’s say this is the 2nd phase.
After one hundred meter, we should to turn to the right get into the one way road. If only we realize that there is something left at home, we couldn’t easily turn around because between our lines with the opposite line was separated with a sidewalk and a garden. It means we have to keep going a few hundred meters to find the U-turn. Let’s say this is the 3rd phase.
After we passed the one way road, we have many options of route with the slightly difference of range and time and of course each route offer the different condition and atmosphere. We could choose the main road with a few traffic lights and also we will have traffic jam at the some section. Or we choose one of the alternative ways that is passing through the alley which crosses the several beautiful homely housing. The all alternative route could take us to our destination. Let’s say this is the 4th phase. The choices are in our hand.
It is the route that many years have been and certainly passed by me every time I go to the church for ministry. Countless hundred times I passed through the same route but never once at all I am in the same second and with the same detail situation. I always find all definitely different: The number of vehicles, the type of cars that I met when stop at the traffic light, the pedestrian who cross the road, the clothes that they wear, the child who running on the roadside when I take the alternative road, the wind speed, humidity, the form of cloud that I could see, etc. All was different.
It is so with our lives. We all are moving to achieve the goals and purposes of our lives. To get there, we have gone through the way which is not always straight but has a lot of bend. Sometime the bend is only one and we just follow it. But sometime we face a crossroad. That is the time we should to make a choice. Of course, each option contains its own challenges. And just as we will never be found second and details of the exact same events in the streets that often we go through every day, so it is with life. No matter how often we passed a place, we only could predict from the experience that at the certain hour of the certain road will be jammed. But still we will not know the details. What’s behind the bend in the front of us? Whether there will be a vehicle that was on strike in a traffic jam? Whether there will be a police officer give the fined ticket to a rider who grab the path which should to be? Are there any trees to be uprooted? We don’t even know.
That’s life. There are many phases, there are many options, and there are many bends. How do we reach the purposes and pass the road to get there, it all depends on us. Do we believe in ourselves, or entrust ourselves to God’s leading.
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. (Proverb 27:1 NIV)
Because we do not know the future, then the most thoughtful step is entrusting each of our step to the Lord.
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that… (James 4:13-16 NIV)
For humans, the future is like a mystery. But for God everything is very clear because He is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. In this life too many bends and intersections that promises uncertainty! The safest path is to follow the guidance. The indication is clear: We must always walk in His Word because God never work contrary to His Word.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105 NIV)
Today or tomorrow … if we get to the end of the road which turned and branched, open His words, listen to His voice, obey His guidance, because we never know what’s around the bend. Just follow the guidance. He will make sure we survived until finish. Amen!
