Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.
Since childhood, a child was taught that if want to be the best should to be a number one. In the process, they focused how to reach the top position in every phase of life. Finally embedded a value of life that a successful should to be the first rank, have a great achievement, have a higher position, and ultimately resulted in prosperity, namely wealth. They make it all as a major target and purpose. Therefore many people spend most of the years of their lives to achieve what is called success, again and again, over and over, and endlessly. Like God’s words, “Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income… ” (Ecclesiastes 5:10 NIV)
Unwittingly, many people perceive and live their lives like a competition. They want to surpass the others achievement, and they feel complacent when achieving it. But it complacency will not last too long because some time later certainly there is another person appears better than them. They flattered when commended, felt hurt when rejected, angry when criticized, and offended when people doubts about their credibility. Is as pride and satisfaction if get recognition as a successful person, honored, and appreciated. About this thing God’s word says: “And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another…..” (Ecclesiastes 4:4 NIV)
King Solomon was a successful figure of human being. He was the power holder, wealthy, and wise. He was very respected and honored, not only by the employees and citizens but even by other kings. He said about himself:
I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me. (Ecclesiastes 2:9 NIV)
But at the one point of his life, he also said:
Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 2:11 NIV)
Is it wrong want to be the best? Absolutely no! Is it wrong struggling to get achievement? Certainly no! Shall we strive for success? Definitely must! But now the question is: “For what and for whom we do all that?” Let’s together take a break for a minute to once again ponder what is become the deepest motivation behind all thing that we have done and we will do. Because if we have wrong basis, then all we built painstakingly, will be in vain.
A building constructed in accordance with the blueprint that has been created by the architect, in line with the function and purpose of the building. So does God the creator. From the beginning, God has a blueprint that contained a specific design that has set for each of us. When we accept Jesus Christ as The Lord and Savior, the image of God in us that has been broken by sins, is restored. Since then, we no longer live for ourselves, but become a part of God’s great master plan. Each of us has a unique role in it. To working on that noble call, we must live in the blueprint which from the beginning has been designed by God.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.(Ephesians 2:10 NIV)
This is what supposed to be a goal in our lives! This is what supposed to be a reason why we do all good thing: to do good works which God prepared in advance for us!
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)
Live and abide in God’s plan! This is the key in order everything we did wasn’t in vain just like grasping the wind. This is the true success where not only will satisfy our own heart but also would glorify God and to be a blessing to others.
How to always living in God’s plan and don’t make any mistake when take decisions in every phase of our lives? There is one best way! Knowing His will for us!
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:9-10 NIV)
We will never be able to understand the specific of what is God’s plan for our lives, unless God himself revealed them. Therefore, we should to ask for wisdom and true understanding that comes from God alone. We must constantly subdue our minds under the Christ’s mind. We must learn to continually lean on God in making any decision. Do not lean on our own understanding and consideration because everything that we think is good is not necessarily the best for us in God’s sight. The Lord said:
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9 NIV)
If we continue to live in God’s will, our lives will be more pleasing God in every way. Why? Because, we do not doing based on our own agenda and for the sake of our own interest, but we simply do everything according to the God’s plan. If we continue to live in Him, so every step that we’ve been through will make us grow in the knowledge of God more. As a result, our lives will bear fruit in every good work to the fullest for His glory.
Do not try to be the best because just want to commend. Do not fight to reach achievement because merely want to prove oneself. Do not pursue a success only so as looks so great in the human eye. But do all of it because we love the Father and longs to please Him. And let the yearning drives us to continue seek His will in every phase of our lives.
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. (Ephesians 5:17 NIV)
Indeed, God will not give the whole picture instantaneously, but God will guide us step by step to do His work and bring us to live in His plan.
Strive for and achieve the best positions in order to radiate His light.
Equip ourselves in order to have the readiness to occupy strategic positions in order to be a channel of His blessing. All just for His name and His glory, not for us
Have the highest dreams, and then work in earnest. Yet, make sure that everything is in harmony with God’s plan for our lives.
For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! (Romans 11:36 NIV)
