Beautiful Words

Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.

THE UNBREAKABLE HOPE (Posted in bahasa : Pengharapan Yang Teguh)

The unbreakable hopeA better future! That is what everyone wants. But in fact, sometimes we corned with a tough circumstances. It seems there is no hope at all. We become frustrated, lost direction, and then desperate. Not least finally choose a shortcut by do things that prohibited by God and against the law, even commits suicide.

When we heard about someone suicide, we often really cannot understand why they did it. For us who do not experience it, we see that they have mediocre problem, not too hard. So what caused them desperate and to commit suicide? Just because their felt the problem is very big, complicated, there was no way out, and thought that their life would be definitely destroyed. There is no hope anymore!

Every people have a tendency to feel their problem is more severe than the others problems. In counseling session we often heard a statement, “You do not understand what truly I am feeling”. Yes, that is true. Proverb 14:10 NIV: ”Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy”. Happy or sad, only that people who really feel it. Then what we can do if we trapped in the situation like that? Who can help us get out from the slumped heart situation?

Why I wrote “The slumped heart situation?” and not “slumped life circumstances”? Because often that makes everything seem darker and chaotic is our own heart situation. When our heart is happy, everything feels fine. Otherwise, when our heart is murky, a small problem could be a big one. That is why God commanded: “Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23 AMP)


When facing a problem, there are two groups of people. First, those who not just survive in period of tribulation, yet also successfully came out as a winner, even with much better condition than before. The Second group is those who destroyed by their problems and never rise up again. What is distinguishing between them? People who are able to win over their situation are powerful people. Why would they be strong? Because they do not let their hearts to be falter.

Do not falterIf you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength! (Proverb 24:10 NIV)

Falter is like “antidote”. If we consume something then we drink the antidote, so the efficacy and the influence of certain food / drink / drugs we consume previously will be lost. As well as falter. Falter is always counter -productive to the seeds of faith and hope. How could we hoping if we falter?

Falter will never offer any good thing.
But it will take the loot your chance to be restored.
When we falter, at the same time faith and hope will be gone


Hope always promising things are getting better.
With hope we will have the strength to face the problems, because hope makes us focus on the future and not on the current problems we are facing.

“…When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do. And so he was made father of a multitude of peoples. God himself said to him, “You’re going to have a big family, Abraham!” (Romans 4:17-18 MSG)

Hope makes us focus on the futureAbraham is in a condition that everything was hopeless. There is no basis to hoping. But he chose to hope and believe. And hope makes him see the future, not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do, that he will become father of a multitude of peoples and later will have a big family, as God himself said to him. So the key of winner in struggle is having a hope. Hoping to whom? There are many people has hope, but eventually they disappointed. Why? Because they put hope at the wrong place, that on human and richness.

Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?
(Isaiah 2:22 NIV)
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment (1 Timothy 6:17 NIV)

Do not put hope in something fragile and ephemeral as human being and richness. If we are hoping to humans and richness, then we assume that humans and richness could help us more than God.

If we want to know WHERE and HOW BIG our faith, just look at to WHAT and WHOM we hope!
Where we put OUR HOPE, therein indeed we put OUR FUTURE.

How to not be disappointed and lost future? Hope in God, like Abraham who hoping and waited for the promise which had been spoken by the Lord.


We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 6:19-20 NIV)

If we likens life is like a ship, so hope in the anchor. If the anchor lowered and strongly lodged in the seabed, then the ship will stop perfectly and will not dragged by the waves and storm. “…It cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it – a hope…” (Hebrew 6:19 AMP)

The safest and strongest place to anchoring our hope is until the behind curtain, that is the inner sanctuary, where the presence of God was. When a hope anchored to God’s presence so our life will not falter carried away by problems, but we will defeat the situation.


People who hoping definitely looking forward to the results.
If we hope to God, so by itself will looking forward to the God.

As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. (Psalm 123:2 NIV)

And God have an amazing promise to those who waiting for Him: “But those who wait for the LORD [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; They shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired”. (Isaiah 40:31 AMP)

If we want to be a winner in facing a problem, we should have an unbreakable hope. That is hope in the Lord. Keep praying, hoping and do not falter. Continue and always build intimacy with God in His presence and continue to look forward to the fulfillment of His promises. He will never disappoint us. Then our strength and power will be constantly updated to be able to lift our wings and mount up as eagles towards a higher level of life.

“The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him” (Lamentations 3:25 NIV)

    Hello Sella, I must agree with Susan about our compassion for those who die by suicide. My son, Brandon, died 5 yrs ago from suicide. He was a Christian who loved the Lord. His faith sustained him throughout his life but sadly, he died from a disease that is complex and unfairly judged by an unforgiving society. The brain is a part of the body. It can become ill just like your stomach or your heart. We will all die from something unless Jesus returns first. I am so glad that His grace covers all sins and that His mercy covers all illness.

    I have dedicated my blog “In the Wake of Suicide….trying to understand” to gathering information about what may contribute to this kind of death, also theology on suicide, and the science that is involved that proves why people die this way. In saying this, I know that we cannot have all the answers here but one day it will be revealed to us when we get to Heaven…if we even care by then. I find comfort that my son was not condemned for the way he died… but that the way he lived and prayed, the way he found comfort in Christ…his belief in God and His sacrifice and forgiveness: these were his salvation and that he will be at Heaven’s gate to meet me one day. I am speaking the truth in love…..

      I am so sorry about your son. No one can and deserve to judge others, no one, so do I. Only God who knows our hearts clearly. People only can see by cover.
      This post is not meant to judge or disrespect who those die by suicide. Only God who knows everything in human life. Through this post I just wanna say… there is always hope and better future in God. God has an amazing plan for us, and God wants us to finishing it together with Him.
      I pray your blog always be bless people around the world, and God speaks through you everything He wants to say.

    Sella Irene, I realize this post is about faith and hope in God, which is beautiful. I must, however, add one note to this. We must have compassion for our brothers and sisters who die by suicide.

    This is not simply a lack of faith or hope; many are solid believers who love the Lord. They suffer from a condition called depression, and do not possess the resources to pull themselves out. (Even the prophet Elijah suffered from this and was suicidal at one point in his ministry.) Suicide is not about misinterpreting “mediocre problems”; it is about a faulty connection in the brain.

    Let’s be sure we always uplift and seek to understand those who become hopeless instead of accusing them of too little faith. On the surface, while it may seem so, we must walk alongside those in pain lest we cause anyone to stumble due to our own lack of knowledge.

      Hello dear Susan, i agree wih you. We must have compassion for our brothers and sisters who die by suicide. Honestly i have brother in Christ who die by suicide several years ago.
      This post is not meant to disrespect those who have committed suicide. But it is warning for those who are having problems so that they don’t do it because there is always hope in the Lord.

    When I read this post, my mind suddenly drifted into the story of Jeremiah. When he became a witness the Babylonians attacked Jerusalem. In the midst of suffering and the destruction of Jerusalem he found a reason to remain hopeful and he wrote his hope like this, Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23) This remind us one thing, we do not have to fear about our future, in the midst of tough problems there is always a reason to remain hoping in God just because God’s love is never ending. After we know “What” and” Whom”, we will no longer ever asked “When?” because by knowing the “what” and “who” we put our hopes, we also know that God will answer our hopes in His perfect time 🙂

    I have made a decision to wait until you write posts in English…..haha
    I got more from it now compared to reading it in Bahasa (hope I got that correct)
    Without hope we can’t live and there is something you said that really ministered to me,

    If we want to know WHERE and HOW BIG our faith, just look at to WHAT and WHOM we hope!
    Where we put OUR HOPE, therein indeed we put OUR FUTURE.

    That is such a profound statement Sella! May we learn not to put our hope in things that don’t save….! God is the only One who we must put our hope in and as we do we are strengthened!!!!
