Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.
A better future! That is what everyone wants. But in fact, sometimes we corned with a tough circumstances. It seems there is no hope at all. We become frustrated, lost direction, and then desperate. Not least finally choose a shortcut by do things that prohibited by God and against the law, even commits suicide.
When we heard about someone suicide, we often really cannot understand why they did it. For us who do not experience it, we see that they have mediocre problem, not too hard. So what caused them desperate and to commit suicide? Just because their felt the problem is very big, complicated, there was no way out, and thought that their life would be definitely destroyed. There is no hope anymore!
Every people have a tendency to feel their problem is more severe than the others problems. In counseling session we often heard a statement, “You do not understand what truly I am feeling”. Yes, that is true. Proverb 14:10 NIV: ”Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy”. Happy or sad, only that people who really feel it. Then what we can do if we trapped in the situation like that? Who can help us get out from the slumped heart situation?
Why I wrote “The slumped heart situation?” and not “slumped life circumstances”? Because often that makes everything seem darker and chaotic is our own heart situation. When our heart is happy, everything feels fine. Otherwise, when our heart is murky, a small problem could be a big one. That is why God commanded: “Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23 AMP)
When facing a problem, there are two groups of people. First, those who not just survive in period of tribulation, yet also successfully came out as a winner, even with much better condition than before. The Second group is those who destroyed by their problems and never rise up again. What is distinguishing between them? People who are able to win over their situation are powerful people. Why would they be strong? Because they do not let their hearts to be falter.
Falter is like “antidote”. If we consume something then we drink the antidote, so the efficacy and the influence of certain food / drink / drugs we consume previously will be lost. As well as falter. Falter is always counter -productive to the seeds of faith and hope. How could we hoping if we falter?
“…When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do. And so he was made father of a multitude of peoples. God himself said to him, “You’re going to have a big family, Abraham!” (Romans 4:17-18 MSG)
Abraham is in a condition that “everything was hopeless”. There is no basis to hoping. But he chose to hope and believe. And hope makes him see the future, “not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do”, that he will become father of a multitude of peoples and later will have a big family, as “God himself said to him”. So the key of winner in struggle is having a hope. Hoping to whom? There are many people has hope, but eventually they disappointed. Why? Because they put hope at the wrong place, that on human and richness.
Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?
(Isaiah 2:22 NIV)
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment (1 Timothy 6:17 NIV)
Do not put hope in something fragile and ephemeral as human being and richness. If we are hoping to humans and richness, then we assume that humans and richness could help us more than God.
How to not be disappointed and lost future? Hope in God, like Abraham who hoping and waited for the promise which had been spoken by the Lord.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 6:19-20 NIV)
If we likens life is like a ship, so hope in the anchor. If the anchor lowered and strongly lodged in the seabed, then the ship will stop perfectly and will not dragged by the waves and storm. “…It cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it – a hope…” (Hebrew 6:19 AMP)
As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. (Psalm 123:2 NIV)
And God have an amazing promise to those who waiting for Him: “But those who wait for the LORD [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; They shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired”. (Isaiah 40:31 AMP)
If we want to be a winner in facing a problem, we should have an unbreakable hope. That is hope in the Lord. Keep praying, hoping and do not falter. Continue and always build intimacy with God in His presence and continue to look forward to the fulfillment of His promises. He will never disappoint us. Then our strength and power will be constantly updated to be able to lift our wings and mount up as eagles towards a higher level of life.
“The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him” (Lamentations 3:25 NIV)
